CBIRT Training:
Traumatic Brain Injury: An Overview
The Center on Brain Injury Research
and Training (CBIRT) has posted its first interactive training
module, "Traumatic Brain Injury: An Overview." This module offers a
clear, quick, interactive means of introducing personnel to the
topic of TBI and its impact.
To complete the module visit
http://cbirt.org/resources/interactive-learning-modules/module-tbi-an-overview/
The module takes only 15 minutes to
complete. CBIRT will send a certificate to anyone who completes the
module, takes the survey console quiz and receives a score of 80% or
higher.
Topics included in
this training module include:
· Long-term impact of TBI
· Causes of TBI
· Prevalence of TBI
· Factors influencing progress following a TBI
· Common Symptoms of TBI
· Impact of TBI on survivors and family members
· Substance abuse and TBI
· Strategies for managing life after a TBI
Future modules will target more
complex topics (e.g., environmental supports, systematic training of
assistive technology). If you have ideas for future module topics,
please contact Laurie Ehlhardt Powell at
ehlhardtl@wou.edu.
Walk for Thought

The national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates
that 3.17 million Americans live with disabilities from traumatic
brain injury. Every 23 seconds an American sustains a traumatic
brain injury. You can support our education, prevention and advocacy
efforts by getting pledges and joining our Walk for Thought.
Proceeds benefit the programs and services of the BIA-AR

What is
Walk for Thought?
The
2011 Walk for Thought was a tremendous success!.
The event is a celebration of life, hope and
healing. The walk is open and accessible to all – including those in
strollers and wheelchairs.
Those who walk can do so as an individual or part of
a team of three or more. Teams can be made up of family, friends,
co-workers or social clubs – anyone who wants to join in the fun and
raise awareness and money for the Brain Injury Association of
Arkansas. How do walkers raise money? They ask others to
sponsor them in the walk!
